Search Engine Optimisation - Slow and Steady Wins the Race
We are frequently asked "just tell me the one thing that will dramatically improve the success of my website". Well in every case there is no such one thing, but there are at least a dozen tasks that, when all done correctly, add up to a strong improvement in results. Optimising your website for search engines is a task within this dozen.
Our expertise will help you ensure that your website is search engine friendly for the keywords that are important to you. Here are some points to help properly set some expectations with regards to this service, its varying degrees of difficulty, and the timeframes you should allow for results.
Seeing the fruits of your optimisation work will take time. Expect to see some improvement within 2 months, with the full effect of your efforts being shown after 6 months. If you want the quick fix - the 'get me some extra traffic now' solution - then paid search marketing is a better choice, e.g. Google's AdWords solution.
The degree of difficulty of your task is related to the keywords you want to optimise for. For instance, if you sell hydraulic valves for the petro-chemical industry and the keyword you are targeting is 'petro-chemical industry valves' and you have little local competition that is optimising for this same term, then your work ahead should be relatively straightforward. However, if you market imported children's clothing and want to optimise for the terms 'girls clothing' and 'boys clothing' then you will have quite a job positioning yourself against the glut of websites all wanting to rank well for these same terms.
Finally we focus a lot on optimising for the Google search engine. Of course this is not the only search engine in New Zealand but as it carries by far the majority of search traffic (current estimates have its share of the market at around 70%). I figure that your time is better spent focusing here first and then moving onto others.
The problems this type of work solves.
This work improves your chances of being found by those who don't know you or your business. One way to test this is to look into your website analytics reports (yes, this needs to be set up BEFORE anything else) and take note of the keywords people are using to find your site. If this list is chock full of your brand name or website url but devoid of the generic terms people use in your market then this service is for you.
How it will make your site sell more.
All things being equal, the more prospects that are delivered to your website the greater your chances of increasing the leads your site provides. Now, not all keywords will bring the same types of prospects. Some prospects will be more willing to purchase than others. But still, the higher your coverage the better your odds.
What needs to happen BEFORE this type of work is completed?
As mentioned before, website analytics needs to be set up and properly configured before you head off down this route. Without this you will never know if improvements have occurred and if they actually delivered the results (extra conversions) you desired.
